An access log is a complete list of all the files which were accessed by the guests of a certain website. Any file that was requested for whatever reason shall be listed, so if you have only one page with 3 embedded images, one video and one embedded text file, as an illustration, the access log will contain a total of six entries - one for each of the 6 files which were accessed when the website visitor opened the page. A log typically offers the file name and path, the date, in addition to the visitor’s OS, browser and IP address. In some cases you can also find the referrer websites that sent the visitors to your website. The information that an access log file provides is in human-readable plain text format. It could be processed by special software on a personal computer and used to write reports on the efficiency of a site, aside from the web stats that your server may have generated.
Access Log Manager in Web Hosting
Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel features a section dedicated to various logs and the access logs are one of them. Once you sign in to your web hosting account and take a look at this section, you shall find a list of all the domain names and subdomains which you have. All it takes to enable the generation of access logs is to press a button that'll be available next to each and every domain/subdomain. When the option is enabled, you will see a download link and also the file size so far, so you will be able to save the file to your PC and view it or process it with some program. Enabling or disabling the logs becomes effective right away, so if you no longer need one, you'll be able to stop it with simply a click from the same section of the Control Panel. You shall still have the ability to access the already created content by clicking on the Download link.
Access Log Manager in Semi-dedicated Servers
If you host your websites in a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you'll have the option to trigger or deactivate the generation of access logs with no more than a few mouse clicks within your Hepsia hosting Control Panel. You'll find this function within the Access/Error Logs section, which you can access when you sign in. All it takes for our system to start creating logs is a single click on the On button which you can see there. The feature can be enabled independently for any site regardless if it uses a domain name or a subdomain and you'll find the full list of all the hosts in that section. Any access log can be downloaded as a text file with simply a click and you may then look at it manually or use some software on your computer. The log generation can be disabled by simply changing the On option to Off inside the Logs section of your CP.
