Custom Error Pages
Learn what a Custom Error Page is, what function does it serve and the way to set one.
Each time a page on your site doesn't load, an error message shall be shown to the visitor. As there are different errors, there are different pages that will appear, but what is common for all of them is that they're generic and almost certainly will have practically nothing that resembles the design of your Internet site, which may be annoying for any visitor. This is the main reason why website hosting service providers have introduced a function known as Custom Error Pages. For a range of different errors, site visitors will see your custom made content, which can be informative or amusing, in accordance with your choice, and which shall match the overall design and style of your website, so the pages shall not appear as if they're not part of your Internet site at all. You can use this option for numerous errors - 400 (Bad request), 401 (Unauthorized), 403 (Forbidden) and 404 (File not Found).

Custom Error Pages in Web Hosting
The custom error pages feature is provided with each and every
web hosting package that we offer and you'll be able to substitute all the generic pages with your own with no more than a few mouse clicks in your Hepsia website hosting CP. You will need to create the actual files and to upload them to your account, and then to set them for a given domain or subdomain using the Hosted Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel. You can easily do this for every Internet site hosted inside the account independently, so that every group of personalized pages shall have the same layout as the site it is part of. When necessary, you can always return back to a default page from our system or to the default Apache server page. A different way to set custom error pages is to create an .htaccess file inside the domain/subdomain root folder and to include a few lines in it. If you haven't done this before, you may simply copy the necessary code from our Help article on this subject.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Servers
All our
semi-dedicated servers support custom error pages, so you shall be able to use this feature for each and every domain or subdomain hosted in your account. All it takes to do this is to navigate to the Hosted Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel, to click on the Edit button related to the particular domain/subdomain and to type in the link to the custom-made file. You can do this separately for every error type. You will be able to switch back to a default error page anytime if required and the change shall take effect right away. A different way to achieve the exact same result is to put an .htaccess file inside the domain or subdomain folder associated with the Internet site which you'd like to modify and to enter several lines of code within it. If you would like to try this method, you may copy and paste the necessary code from our Knowledge Base article on custom error pages, which means that you'll not need any coding skills or prior experience.
