An Operating System is the software which communicates with the hardware of a computer system and works as the intermediary between all the applications and the hardware, including peripheral devices such as a printer, a computer mouse or a keyboard. When you run an app, it transmits requests to the OS using an API (Application Program Interface) and the contact is done through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Just like a personal computer, web hosting servers also have an Operating System which functions as a host for all the software installed on them, which includes script applications or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, etc. A virtual machine can be set up on a physical one, so you could install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment in contrast to the physical server host OS.
Multiple OS in VPS Servers
We offer three different Linux distributions for the Operating System of our VPS servers - Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu. These are among the safest and the most reliable OSs available and we offer all 3 instead of just one since we realize that you may want to install some software which has specific requirements regarding the Operating System it shall run on. The latter is because each of the three Operating Systems has a huge support community behind it and there're various software applications you could install on the hosting server. Your OS selection will also determine exactly what hosting Control Panel can be set up on the VPS in case you want to use one and for that reason we offer multiple Control Panels too. If you ever decide that you need some other OS, our technical support can quickly wipe the existing one and set up the one that you need. In addition, we offer an optional service to have the OS on your VPS updated weekly.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
If you decide to purchase one of our dedicated servers, you shall find three Operating Systems on the order page since we want to give you a larger choice for the system environment on your machine as different apps could have specific requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian feature different modules developed by their large support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and take advantage of a reliable and safe web hosting service. Depending on your decision, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always change the Operating System if the one you have selected initially does not meet the requirements of the software which you intend to run. We can also upgrade the OS routinely to keep it as secure as possible with our Managed Services upgrade package.
